4 of 8 spent her days last week at Drama Camp, a five day extravaganza of script writing, plot pruning, costume designing, singing, dancing fun.
And I have to admit, I was a little trepidatious about turning 4 of 8 loose on the stage. I didn’t know how she would feel in a boisterous group, trying to listen for instructions. I didn’t know if the camp counselors had experience with the hearing impaired. And I didn’t know if 4 of 8 would get a little shy on stage, if she would clam up.
Silly me.
She loved it. She reveled in it. She stayed in character, she made the crowd laugh.
I definitely think she has the bug now. She’s says acting is better than soccer.
That’s a big wow.
And of course, the whole experience was sweetened by the fact that SH, 4 of 8’s spectacular BFF, was also at the camp and is a veteran of song and stage. She showed 4 of 8 the ropes, she encouraged 4 to not hold back, to act full-out, to project, to enunciate.
Have I mentioned how much I love this kid?
So we learned a lot last week. We learned that 4 of 8 can grab hold of a character and sell it. We learned that people understood her just fine. We learned that best buddies in real life can have a ball being social opposites on stage. We learned that seeing 4 of 8 act on a public stage makes us a little teary-eyed.
Oh, and I learned one more thing…
It is really, really hard to discreetly nurse a flailing 22 month old whilst sitting in the audience in a theatre designed in the round.
Just thought you should know that.

Congrats to 4 of 8! Nothing’s going to stop that girl!!
Now to find a theatre with a dark corner!

so exciting for 4 of 8! and BFFs sure help one’s confidence. they are and always will be priceless!!! what a special bond…
I can only imagine nursing LL. He was weaned too early looking back, but he is so active now! I think he would be showing everyone in the theatre his mama’s goods š

I can completely relate to your emotions. Everytime I watch my kids perform, even in the children’s church choir, I get teary eyed and I swell with pride. Our kids need to know that about us…that they are truly our pride and joy and that we are their cheerleaders for life. Thank you for sharing. Way to go 4 of 8. We’re proud of your accomplishment.

Hail the Drama Queen! Great job, 4!
I always get so nervous, and worry too much about my kids trying something new. And then I feel ridiculous when they get up there and make me so proud I cry!

I can only imagine how proud you are! How wonderful for 4 of 8 to be trying something new (and loving it) and for a BFF by her side!
Midwest Mom says
I can understand how 4 of 8 feels. I was a painfully shy child, but there was something very freeing in the ability to become something/someone completely different on stage. And when the audience responds to what you’re doing — WOW!
She should feel so proud of herself, just like you do. I hope she does it again, and when she does, tell her “Break a Leg!”

Love that you’re still nursing!
4 of 8 looks so at peace, something to be said for facing others worst fears for you I suppose.

Oh wtg 4 of 8. My 2 of 3 is our actress extroardinaire (she is in Bugsy malone this weekend!). I love seeing kids acting, showing their flamboyant side and being part of a grroup with the same goals. This is awesome..am i bet Mom learned new things too huh other than the feeding the flailing 22 month old!!! LOL
Michelle says
I admire anyone that can get up and perform in front of an audience. I get weak in the knees when I just have to step out from behind the stage curtain to take a bow for being a back stage director. š
Way to go girl!

Congrats to #4! Who knows … maybe you’ll see her on Broadway one day?

You are going to have sooooo many wonderful experiences with 8 children. I am kind of envious! You’ll get to taste a little bit of this, that and the other!
She looks like she completely soaked up, enjoyed and made the most of her moment on stage. Bravo 4 of 8!!!

Hey 4 of 8 way to go. Hope your Mom took a video of your performance.
Maybe you could make a scrapblog out of some of the pictures taken.
Multitalented young lady, I wonder what else you have up your sleeve to add to ballet, soccer, acting…..
Thanks Julie for featuring this special, special human being.
Lots of love

Let’s not talk about the time I was struggling to nurse in the cry room at church, and didn’t realize until afterwards that I was seated in front of a huge plate glass window that looked over the entire sanctuary and faced half the seats. I’m sure the priest got an eyeful.
Mummy McTavish says
Go 4 of 8! I’ll be watching out for your name in lights!
Heatherlyn says
Isn’t it great to see your child LOVE something that you never would have thought they’d love?!!
